Abstract: The Oxford Dictionary defines the word 'defect' as "A lack, shortcoming or failure of something essential to completeness or to the perfect state". This definition is quite relevant to Building Failure. A trouble free detail can only be attained by a harmonious relation between different materials to fulfil all the relevant factors. A shortcoming, lack of failure of any of the components will render the detail from inefficient to veraciously unsuccessful. This is analogous to the philosophical difference between good and bad; small as it may be, the repercussions can be quite diverse. Thus, small defects in workmanship, supervision, a slight inadequacy of material or the overlooking of the seemingly irrelevant factor can render a defect very difficult or even impossible to correct. This is the overall characteristic of the defects encountered in Malta.
