Abstract: The old parish church of Zejtun represents centuries' worth of architectural achievements, which when combined together make for a very unique historical building, and provide, when studied, an insight into the development of structural and constructional aspects related to such structures. As such, this dissertation also aims to stimulate the appreciation and conservation of local masonry structures. The relevant literature regarding this church was synthesised for a better understanding of its various facets. A detailed survey of the building was also made. The principles of thrust line and membrane analysis were affected on the main structural components of the church. Actual and hypothetical loading conditions, at the nave, transepts and dome, were tested, providing a holistic understanding of its structural behaviour.
