This document draws on regional insights into career guidance that comparative research has generated in the “global South”. The aim of the article is to add another voice to the challenge of the universalization of language that characterizes the theory and practice of career guidance, and to further highlight the serious attention that must be paid to "localisms" and "particularisms" so that the answers context sensitive may arise. While several authors advocate paying attention to context, few explicitly link epistemological and ontological concerns to the issue of political power. In contrast, in this article I argue that inductive theorizing is more likely not only to generate relevant and useful insights and practices: it is also more likely to serve the interests of social justice.en_GB
