Abstract: This study is about new communities, studied from a sociological point of view. These post-war developments, of which Santa Lucia is undoubtedly the prototype have been blamed and praised so often that a study which delves in some depth into the matter is opportune. This work is not a defence or criticism of new communities but a study to find out why people go to new communities, how people change when they move to a new community and how a new community comes into being. Suggestions are forward to make this a valuable contribution towards recognizing the problems and finding a solution. My primary aim is to observe what people really do and say, and this is why I used sociological surveys as my most important tool.
