Abstract: In the field of constructional industry the most significant change in recent years has been the increasing proportion of the use of structural steel work; the last twenty years have witnessed a considerable amount of important structures of an appreciable size being built partly or entirely in steel. Within the global field of structural steel design, this text is primarily concerned with one relevant aspect, namely structural steel roofing systems. The purpose and scope of this dissertation is mainly two fold - to compile general information regarding examples of steel roofing systems, with their relevant economical aspects, giving special reference to the local situation and to present an elementary research study on the optimum design of one of the typical steel roofing types.
