Abstract: | The first three chapters cover the value and background theory of accelerated tests. The limitations of the 28-day test in the context of present day concrete practise are exposed in Chapter I. It then introduces the long felt need for a more rapid test for evaluating the compressive strength of concrete cubes. A synopsis of the history is also covered. Chapter II comprises of a discussion of the factors which have an influence on the compressive strength of accelerated cured cubes, some restrictions to the accelerated curing mode and modifications to some of them. Details of the accelerated curing methods incorporated in both the British and American codes are explained in Chapter III together with other modern methods employed in the concrete industry. From this general approach the attention is focused on local conditions. Modifications and simplifications to the methods above can be made and these together with suggested improvements are to be found in Chapter IV. Chapter V deals with the statistical methods adopted to obtain the results which are tabulated and expressed in graphical form. |
