Abstract: The aim of this dissertation is to study and discuss the spatial qualities of contemporary houses with particular reference to those built under the Home Ownership Scheme. The majority of all buildings serve for habitation purposes and the housing conditions reflect the inhabitants' well-being. " The single family house has four peculiar functions. It must serve 1. for living, sleeping, eating, excreting, etc., 2. for the care and education of children, 3. for individuals subject to group pressure, 4. as symbol, background, expression, and joy." The spatial qualities of domestic architecture deserve deeper attention than that being currently given to them. The building of new houses is on the increase but unfortunately the design process of such houses is limited to two dimensional planning only. Little attempt is being afforded to design in three dimensions.
