dc.description.abstractThis is a study which analyses several aspects regarding the Local Major Sewage Treatment plant. It is situated at Sant’ Antnin, Marsascala and had started its operation in 1983. The study illustrates a historical outline of the local sewerage system and deals with the local water shortage problem. This latter problem, brought about the need to purify part of the sewage to produce water within standards rendering it fit for irrigation. This sewage purification plant operates via the activated sludge process as secondary treatment. This is also complemented with screening and sedimentation as primary treatment and, filtration and disinfection as tertiary treatment.en_GB
