Abstract: A house is designed and constructed as a physically static object however it arrives in a world with rapid changing needs and living patterns. This dissertation explores the notion of adaptability by reviewing various authors who attempted to resolve the concept into a systematic design of housing. It argues that adaptable dwellings have the potential to make a key contribution to more adaptable and therefore more sustainable buildings, showing how it has clear social and economic benefits.
