Abstract: The main purpose of this dissertation is to give a clear picture of the present internal thermal environment in terraced houses in Malta and to examine how proved principles of design can affect the internal thermal conditions, particularly under warm weather conditions. The dissertation is divided in four chapters. Chapter one is an introduction covering subjects like the thermal requirements in relation to human comfort and factors affecting the thermal design of buildings. Chapter two consists of an analysis on the local climate. Chapter three deals with the assessment of the thermal environment in terraced houses and the last chapter deals with methods of improving the internal thermal environment.
