Abstract: Concrete and steel are used structurally in such large quantities that methods of design, fabrication or construction that can show economies in final cost are of great utility. The object of this dissertation is to present one combined application of the two materials in which they are intimately linked to form composite structural elements. The emphasis of the dissertation is towards the engineering applications of composite construction through an explanation, in general terms, of the principles of the subject, followed by sections on the uses of composite construction in buildings.
