Abstract: | The extensive knowledge and use of the concrete has led to the development and addition of other materials to attain improved mechanical and physical properties. Concrete is being constantly reinvented to produce new and innovative technologies and products. One innovative by-product of incorporating a foreign material light transmitting concrete. Light transmitting concrete consists of optical fibres embedded within the concrete section, which guide light waves from one surface to another, giving the concrete the illusion of translucency. The products available so far have shown that light transmitting concrete shares the same properties as ordinary concrete and could even be used as load bearing elements. |
