Abstract: Mankind has always felt the need of having and improving its' communication system. History shows us that nations always tried to optimise the communication links within their radius of jurisdiction, as it was synonimous with having control of any nation. Malta was no exception to this. Throughout the times, Malta has been used by many powerful nations, as a naval base, and a stepping stone between the two continents. During these occupation periods, internal communication systems were introduced for military purposes. This occupation period is over now, but we realise that having good communication systems, is more important than ever. Any modern nation does its utmost in having an efficient system, competitive. thus helping the country flurish and be With this in mind, I tried to analyse the local road communication system. With the numerous increase in the number of vehicles on the island, the need for good roads becomes more important. This dissertation will not question the existing road networks, but will analyse the actual condition of the pavement.
