Abstract: Porosity, defined as the ratio of the volume of pores to the overall volume of the substance is a physical property which certainly bears an effect on the performance of stone with respect to strength, density, weathering, thermal insulation, conductivity, etc. Porosity on its own however does not yield much relevant information but it is the actual pore structure and the distribution of pores, which together with other elements determine the aforementioned properties.
