The vibration performance of various bridges in the Maltese Islands was investigated. These varied in scale, age and construction type. Measurements of frequency and velocity were taken so that different patterns of frequency and velocity could be extracted. Acceleration and displacement parameters were subsequently obtained using the relevant equations. The response of a slab under a moving vehicle is a complex phenomenon because of the interaction between the slab and the vehicle. Vibration was induced by ambient forces, namely traffic and wind. Testing was carried out at the mid-span of each bridge at three time intervals namely 07.00 - 8.30, 12.00 -13.30 and 17.00 -18.30. This procedure was carried out on both lanes of each bridge and performed over seven highway bridges in Malta. Results were then compared to the limiting values prescribed in standards, with each other and with other existing test results. Finally, data was also interpreted with respect to human tolerance levels which are prescribed In codes and technical reports.en_GB
