dc.description.abstract | The introduction of this dissertation provides a critical explanation of what the S.T.O.M. consisted of. In chapter one, I discussed editorial policy and listed down the editors of the S.T.O.M. between 1956 and 1966. I also discussed, in brief, how the S.T.O.M. could have contributed to the artistic scene of Malta of the mid-twentieth century. In this chapter, I also listed down the most important authors and their articles which appeared in these eleven years. The second chapter deals with articles and features related to art exhibitions, art criticism and visitors to Malta who were important in Maltese art-history. Articles and features related to restorations done between 1956 and 1966, is what chapter three concerns. Chapter four concerns the letters written to the editor while chapter five includes a list of notices of auctions, adverts and notices on events. Chapters six and seven deal with the articles and features concerning Maltese art history and international art, respectively. The conclusion seeks to provide an overall critical overview of the role of the S.T.O.M. between 1956 and 1966 in the Maltese artistic scene. The dissertation concludes with a gazetteer which gathers all the art-related articles, features and notices in chronological order, which appeared in the S.T.O.M. between 1956 and 1966. | en_GB |
