Abstract: It has often been said that beneath the streets and buildings of Valletta there exists another city. Many have spoken of interconnected tunnels stretching from one side of the peninsula to another, of immense vaults underlying squares and prominent buildings, and the presence of a variety of other subterraneaneos spaces. Although in recent years some individuals spaces found between private or state-owned buildings have been exposed and sometimes restored, much of Valletta's undercroft remains largely unconcealed.
