What level of ‘Fédération Internationale de l’Automobile’ (FIA) racetrack should be build in Malta and its direct impact towards the tourism sector?

Abstract

The objective of the study is to identify the most suitable Fédération Internationale de l’Automobile (FIA) racetrack grade (Grade 1 to 6) that will result in a huge economical return, with an extensive part coming from the touristic sector. Return from the touristic sector can be measured in different ways such as financial, country recognition, marketing return and other racetrack related activities. To carry out the study, a number of key people in the motorsport scene in Malta and others that are indirectly linked were interviewed in order to have a better understanding on the current situation. Another set of interviews also consisted in people who are not related to sports in any way, but passed important information regarding my idea of the development of a Grade 1 FIA approved Racetrack. An interview consisting of 21 questions was throughly analysed, using a qualitative approach, in order to further understand people s’ opinions when it comes to the motorsport scene in Malta. The results acquired shall give a clear indication of why such a development is important for the Maltese islands and the huge return on investment that Malta will benefit from. Lastly, any restricting factors which will be partially forbidding the project shall be pinpointed throughout the results acquired. This shall set the foundation for further studies related to the motorsport industry in Malta and the development of racetracks.
