A study on how outdoor adventure activities enhance the experience of tourists in Malta : particular segment : youths

Abstract

Outdoor adventure activities can be painted in broad strokes and interpreted differently by researchers. Such activities may have an effect on the tourists’ experience when visiting the Maltese archipelago. This study seeks to explore what are the factors that contribute to the visitors’ experience when taking part in outdoor adventure activities. Findings were obtained through local providers offering different outdoor activities. Results acquired deal with marketing, sustainability, authenticity, expansion of market and effective feedback amongst others. Throughout the study, the young segment was given a close reference. It was confirmed that many of the service providers are willing to expand in this area if their financial resources permit and they have many new ideas to explore. Furthermore, it was concluded that local service providers are constantly on the look out to attract potential tourists interested in this sector and they are willing to enhance their visitors’ experience by going the extra mile. An element of passion was highlighted through the research. Nonetheless, the challenges brought forward by service providers did not deter the passion that the same providers put into their work to provide a professional and unforgettable experience to the tourist. Further suggestions are discussed by the researcher for the tourist to be presented with the best experience possible. The youth segment needs to be further explored and researched as it was difficult to find literature related to this topic.
