Abstract: | This essay will aim to understand whether Maltese people’s dietary habits are changing, from the traditional Maltese food to a more Western diet, mainly looking at burgers, and the reason behind this. Together with a history of the origin of burgers and their journey from Asia to Europe and Malta, the results can assist a businessman to understand whether one should invest in a burger place or into a traditional Maltese food restaurant. This will be done through a set of interviews with chefs of various experiences as well as families who cook at home. More importantly, more interviews and questionnaires will also be done with a set of people, from teenagers to the elderly, in order to understand their views in regards to traditional Maltese food versus fast food, their preferences and the reasons behind this. The research has also helped to compare the cost for running the different businesses selling the above mentioned cuisines. After this analyses, it was concluded that food culture in Maltese restaurants is leaning more towards a fast food trend, indicating that a businessman is likely to gain more profit from a burger industry than a traditional Maltese restaurant, although a local touch within the burger might be preferred still with the population. |
