Abstract: According to numerous predictions, demand for organic and locally grown food is on the rise. It might not be popular among most of the population for various reasons; however, it is certain that one part of the population is able to afford it. This is in part the reason why chefs, restaurant owners and other catering facilities should pay attention to these trends and act according to market demands. The local organic food market is still developing, and while we have seen an increase in retail demand and sales, such progress is not still visible in the catering industry. In this research study, the researcher tries to shed light on the matter, investigating reasons behind such outcome. Other countries have chosen different methods to reach this objective. In Finland, celebrity chefs promote use of organic produce. In Denmark, a fund had been created to support public caterers that opt to go organic. Which are the biggest challenges locally? Will Malta ever have a fully organic catering establishment? This research study investigates this possibility.
