Abstract: A Study of the Post-War changes in Accounting Education in Malta The aim of this dissertation is to highlight the major developments that accounting education experienced throughout the Post-War period. Reference is also made to how the professional bodies met the needs of the ever-changing business environment by structuring their courses accordingly. The first chapter is a prelude to the dissertation and deals also with, amongst other things, the British influence on Accounting Education. The second chapter is a narrative section where a history of local professional accounting is given. This chapter deals also with the results obtained from the survey carried out. In Chapter Three an attempt is made to give a historical account of the Post-War changes in secondary accounting education, with reference to specific examining boards. Chapter Four elaborates on the major differences and, where applicable, the similarities among the selected professional accounting institutions in their approach to prepare students to qualify as professional accountants. In the concluding chapter a summary is made of the dissertation together with any emerging developments and recommendations related to accounting education in Malta.
