The potential privatisation of the Gozo-Malta ferry services

Abstract

The Potential Privatisation Of The Gozo — Malta Ferry Services Interest in privatisation activity has intensified in European countries and in Malta owing to the imminent privatisation of several state-owned enterprises. Upon entry in the EU, Malta may be forced to meet the challenge of liberalisation of the ferry market and/or the decision to privatise the ferry service between Gozo and Malta. The objective of this dissertation was to establish whether privatisation for the ferry service between Malta and Gozo is feasible or not. In particular, the study attempted to determine:The question of liberalising the ferry market in Malta, in the light of the EU stand and the financial implications of such liberalisation.
