Introducing a management information system at Air Malta p.l.c.

Abstract

Having entered the 21st century, Air Malta is aware of the need to continuously update its information system with a view to meet its ever changing management's requirements and to address the ongoing new challenges that an airline company faces. The objective of this dissertation is to study the possibility of introducing a computerised Management Information System at Air Malta as a means of addressing this problem. The study includes an analysis of the current systems in operation at Air Malta which form the basis of the Management Information System's requirements. A logical framework including the architecture for the design of the Management Information System, which could be introduced at Air Malta, was devised to cater for the above requirements. This could assist managers in their decision-making since its most distinctive feature is that of integrating key operational data from the various current systems at Air Malta thereby providing integrated information to management at various levels. An analysis of the research findings is accompanied by recommended actions that should be taken into consideration to ensure the successful implementation of the designed Management Information System. Although this process could result in a demanding and highly laborious task it would surely benefit the management at Air Malta through the capability of taking the right decisions based on accurate, understandable, relevant, reliable, comparable and timely information.
