Abstract: This chapter considers what happens when we encounter something new, which may appear strange or different; for example, when we move, migrate, or even when we encounter a new idea. In this chapter, we will discuss such encounters of the modern age. In particular, we will discuss intercultural encounters, that is, encounters between people of diverse cultural backgrounds who have different perspectives from each other.
