Valuing the environmental effect of the Sant' Antnin waste treatment facility

Abstract

The purpose of this study carried out is to examine the willingness of the habitants in Marsascala to pay for an environment free from the negative affects of the Sant' Antin implant, and there willingness to accept a compensation for such affects. The objective of this dissertation was achieved though primary and secondary data research which was carried out by the author. Primary data was used in which a contingent valuation was carried out, where 100 questionnaires were distributed to the Marsascala population amongst four sub groups of different ages, both male and female. Secondary data was used in order to construct the literature review. The results obtained from the questionnaires were compared and contrasted to one another, and most importantly the total value of environmental quality change was measured. The results show that the total willingess to pay for the population of Marsascala was equal to Lm 2,126,731.54, whereas the total willingness to accept found in this study was equal to LM 3,939,004.12 The residents of Marsascala are rather concerned with the situation being lived, and it is essential that more and better information is given out in order to meet the distress of such habitants. Furthermore they shall also be given the opportunity to voice there thoughts.
