Abstract: This study is an investigation of the experiences of young women currently in a long-distance dating relationship, and looks at different factors which existing literature highlights as key within these kinds of relationships. Five participants were interviewed through the use of a semi-structured interview in order to collect the data. In agreement with expectations, results supported what the existing literature says about phenomena like the importance of communication and planning, stress and satisfaction, and idealisation. Although similarities between participants were found, differences were also highlighted indicating that long-distance dating relationships are experienced and appraised uniquely by different individuals. Finally, this study also shows that long-distance dating relationships are unique kinds of relationships and are a lot different to geographically close ones, something the participants' individual experiences highlighted.
