Abstract: The first chapter of this study gives an outline of the economic and commercial factors that led the Malta Government to enter the international grain transhipment trade. Chapter two refers to the supply side of the project in terms of the handling facilities that can be off erred at the terminal. Chapter three outlines the relationship between the three parties to a trade agreement, namely, the grain seller, the buyer and the shipowner and analysis three possible alternative operations that can be adopted by the Maltese . silo operator. Finally, the last chapter puts forward some assumptive problems that can be encountered during the intial stages of operation in the light of certain determinant factors that have changed over the gestation period.
