Abstract: | Many philosophers believe that a human being's life without the arts is incomplete. It is noticeable, however, throughout this report, that the arts in Malta do not form an integral part of our lives. Some actually refer to the arts as a luxury that one consumes when one can afford it. This dissertation analyses the views and experiences of six professional Maltese artists who were selected to discuss six different forms of art, that is, Music, Opera, Theatre, Dance, Painting and Sculpture, respectively. Additionally, interviews with another four personalities introduce the reader to another four perspectives of the state of the arts in Malta. These are: Government Policy, philosophy, policy-making in microstates and marketing. Finally, this dissertation makes recommendations based on the literature which served as an inspirational factor throughout the progress of this work, as well as on the ten interviews conducted. These recommendations are an attempt to meet the concerns expressed by the artists themselves in the interviews. The objective of this study is to present a platform for further work and investigation in the subject area. |
