Abstract: This dissertation focuses on the history and application of Active Analysis, with special attention given to the practice of improvisation. Active Analysis is a method that Stanislavski developed in his last years of work, where his traditional mise-en-scène and round-the-table rehearsal processes gave way to working on improvisations called 'études'. The text is not forgotten, but actors only return to the lines once they are ready and feel it is necessary to do so.
