Abstract: This study shall aim to investigate preference for metal music amongst young adult males. More specifically, the proposed study aims to explore the subjective experience of males between the ages of 20 and 30 who have or have had a preference for various genres of metal. Research participants will be recruited through snowballing and purposive sampling. Data will be gathered by means of a number of in-depth interviews with persons engaged in the local metal sub-culture. The methodology being used is a phenomenological approach and data will be analysed by means of a thematic analysis.
