dc.description.abstract | The Seismic assessment of the building stock can be carried out at different stages, and in varying detail. In general the assessment of buildings can be categorized as pre-event and post-event stud- ies. The aim of the pre-event studies is to define vulnerable buildings for mitigation of the damage, while post-event studies are carried out to assess the level of damage as a result of the earthquake action and the usability of the buildings. This paper refers to data collection and management with reference to damage in structures and in particular to various available damage and seismic vulnerability assessment tools in European countries, particularly in Italy and Turkey. The large building stock can be assessed through rapid screening or preliminary assessment techniques which do not require complex analytical work. In particular rapid evaluation methods can be utilized for the rapid evaluation of the large building stock as the suburban building stock, and can be used for the development of urban renovation strategies. | en_GB |
