The BUILDUP Skills project was a strategic initiative launched under the Intelligent Energy Europe (IEE) programme through the calls for proposals 2011-2013, intended to boost continuing or further education and training of craftsmen, other on-site construction workers and systems installers in the building sector (IEE). The final objective of the project was to increase the number of qualified workers across Europe to deliver renovations offering a high energy performance as well as new, nearly zero-energy buildings. The initiative addressed skills in relation to energy efficiency and renewables in all types of buildings. (BUILDUP Skills - EU 2015) The project Building Up Skills has set the ground work for the establishment of a vocational training programme in Malta, which addresses the needs of workers and intended to enhance the quality of work in relation to energy efficiency and renewable energy sources. This includes curriculum development which caters for green building technology in Malta. A planned programme which is prepared in consultation with relevant stakeholders shall maximise benefits for workers and for society.en_GB
