Abstract: This study attempts to analyse what opportunities, in the manufacturing sector, exist for the generation of new employment outlets in Gozo and the reasons why firms should be interested in erecting plant in this island. The main drawback to this analysis is the lack of separate statistics for Gozo. This study is based almost entirely on unpublished data obtained from the Department of Labour and Emigration. This information consists mainly of a breakdown of the Gozo labour force and employment in the private sector. other information was obtained through the use of a questionnaire supplemented by interviews. The financial incentives offered by Government and Malta 's prospect of applying to join the European Economic Community were taken into account to establish the effects these would have on investment in Gozo. Having identified many of the problems that hinder investment in Gozo, suggestions were put forward to counteract them. The conclusion reached is that future investment would be similar to that of the past but with higher technology. This calls for more training of the Gozitan workforce.
