Seismicity & earthquake engineering - L’Aquila earthquake of April 2009

Abstract

The topic that this publication addresses and which will also be discussed in the seminar has assumed great importance over the last years. This is due to the recent earthquakes that have manifested themselves in various countries and that have sown mass destruction of property and loss of lives. One of these earthquakes that took place close to us was the one on the 6th April 2009 at L’Aquila in Italy. Dr. Ing. Maurizio Indirli, from the Ente Nazzionale per le Nuove Technologie, Energia, e Sviluppo Economico Sostenibile, (ENEA) Italy with his lecture “The 6th April 2009 L’Aquila earthquake; From Ruins to Reconstruction” gives us an insight into the destruction that took place and the aftermath leading to the reconstruction of the devastated area.
