Abstract: This dissertation explores gender differences and similarities in constructions of infidelity. The data was gathered from six participants, three male, and three female who have been unfaithful to their spouses. Their ages varied between 40 and 55 years. A qualitative framework was adopted and Interpretative Phenomenological Analysis was adopted to analyze the data. This decision was made primarily because the research question requires a methodology that allows personalized, comprehensive explanations. The data was gathered using one hour long, semi-structured interviews. The data shows that the state of the marriage, boredom, communication, sex and lust, control and vengeance are all significant factors. A common theme across gender was communication. Differences in the male and female constructions' were apparent the most in the themes of sex, lust and marital satisfaction.
