Abstract: A system was designed and implemented to equalize play back audio through the inverse impulse response of a room at a particular listening position. This involved calculating the room’s impulse response at that position, converting the impulse response into an inverse impulse response filter, convolving the latter to the CD music and later playing the modified music on the Hi-Fi system. Thus at the listening position, a more natural response of CD music is heard. All the relevant parameters and procedures are described in detail throughout this dissertation with important information regarding hearing, sound propagation, room acoustics, equalisation techniques and Hi-Fi systems. The fundamental theory is derived and later applied throughout the project methodology, thus obtaining relevant results.
