Abstract: This research undertook a specific focus to develop a youth ministry model that caters for a diverse and pluralistic context. The model is based on the Incarnational Model of Youth Ministry, Pope Francis’ Post Synodal Exhortation Christus Vivit as well as a thorough analysis of the needs and cultural influences of youths within the emerging adulthood phase. The methodology used to develop this model was both theoretical and scientific. Seven semi-structured interviews were conducted with students that frequent the University Chaplaincy and/or Dar Manuel Magri, and who come from diverse religious backgrounds. The results from these interviews were compared with varied literature on the current generation of emerging adults as well as with different philosophical and theological concepts. All of this was scrutinised in the light of the Incarnational Model and Christus Vivit. This research showed that the most prominent aspects of young people are their interaction with digital technology, the innate need to meet friends in person and the ability to connect to their inner self. The aforesaid form part of their journey into emerging adulthood to discover more their authentic self. Furthermore, the interviewees highlighted that a welcoming approach as well as a sense of belonging were essential for youth ministry. The proposed youth ministry model is based on four aspects being the physical space, the qualities of the mentor, the involvement of young people and the type of activities. By creating a welcoming environment and focusing ministry work on the building of relationships with young people, one can provide the opportunity for young people to encounter Christ during their journey of emerging adulthood.
