dc.description.abstract | A school behaviour policy is an important tool that has an impact on the students’ behaviour. An effective policy provides a setting which is conducive to learning. Students feel motivated and go through a positive learning experience. This setting directly influences students’ behaviour. This research consisted of a case study which was carried out in a Maltese boys’ church secondary school. The purpose of this qualitative research was to identify ways in which the implementation of the current school behaviour policy may be improved. Data was collected through semi-structured interviews with members of the SMT and teachers, and a focus group with students. The contribution of all the participants helped to provide recommendations towards a better implementation of the behaviour policy at school. Significant recommendations which emerged from this study are consistency from all educators in the implementation of the behaviour policy, the use of positive reinforcement and the active role of parents in their child’s education. The findings of this study suggest the way forward for an effective behaviour policy. This research can serve as a reference for the setting up of a school behaviour policy and offers suggestions for the improvement of existing behaviour policies, with the aim of improving the learning environment of all the students entrusted in our care. | en_GB |
