Abstract: Although we are heading to the twenty first century, parliamentary privileges should not be abolished for the simple reason that they are rules which were made more than six hundred years ago. The concept has evolved together with the constitutional history of the country. Safeguards should be made so that abuse which took place in the past either by the House as a whole or by individual members will not be repeated in future. The power of the legislative body in a democratic country is ultimately in the hands of the people, who in general elections should elect in Parliament those person who are capable of making good use of their powers instead of abusing them.
