Abstract: This research studies the process taken by digital game asset designers, when deciding how to populate space and volume in order to create a visually interesting building structure whilst still respecting architectural and historical constraints. Although mainly regarding the fields of animation and digital games, these principles could be used in any art form that requires the creation of a fictitious environment. The practical aspect comprises of different 3D farmhouses during the middle ages, from different regions in the Mediterranean that all had some form of input on Maltese history. Each building has similar form, but the outer style varies per region in order to be able to typologically compare the differing elements of each structure.
