Abstract: | The advances in IT have certainly introduced new delivery channels in the Maltese banking industry. This dissertation seeks to evaluate the perceptions of banking customers regarding the effect of technological innovations on banking services in Malta. Electronic banking has helped banks increase their competitiveness by enabling them to improve customer service, to provide better products and above all to reduce operating costs. This dissertation's main aim is to discuss, analyse and determine the future prospects of the innovations in electronic banking. Moreover, it seeks to determine its effects on banks and their customers and to identify new ways of payment services that are appropriate for the Maltese banking sector. Chapter 2 describes why consumers use electronic banking products. It discusses the various forms of electronic delivery channels utilized by Maltese Banks. An explanation of how the system works with these electronic banking products is also given. In chapters 3 and 4, a research is carried out to evaluate the consumer electronic banking usage. It evaluates the perceptions of banking customers regarding the effect of technological innovations in banking services in Malta. Chapter 5 deals with developments and future trends regarding some improvements in the innovations of electronic banking products and how this will affect local banks and their clients. There is also a study on the impact of new payment technologies on the value of the banking industry. Another aim is to consider the factors that motivate consumer decisions to choose one type of instrument and not the other. From this study, one can conclude what factors determine the choice of payment instruments. Finally, the last chapter gives the lessons that we have learned from innovations in electronic banking. |
