Abstract: | This research aims to understand how the visual depiction of emotions can be enhanced through fluorescent light by exploring the use of blacklight photography, body art, colours, self-expression, and how fluorescence interacts with different materials. Through photography, this project captures different emotions using the human body as a canvas in order to externalise these and represent them in a visual manner. The research methodology adopted blends multiple modalities of data collection from various sources including interviews, surveys, experimentation and direct observation. The interviewees were chosen based on their level of knowledge of the subject, while the survey respondents were chosen at random solely for their opinions. The data collected was thoroughly examined, reviewed, and utilised in a variety of patterns designs that would be used uniquely during the project. The final project was based on the research findings, the data collected and overall knowledge experience gained from the process. Finally, the thesis looks at the relationship between UV light, fluorescent colours, and emotions, both as artistic tools and a means of communication through an art form. Throughout the entire process, the aim of this dissertation was kept in mind at all times: to capture different emotions represented by the human body using the effects of ultraviolet light on fluorescent colours. The conceptual project was then thoroughly examined to identify strengths and limitations, as well as to make recommendations for future research. |
