Abstract: The aim of this project is to give back to the Mazda 323F owner’s community by redesigning the Mazda 323F BA through the use of automotive design methods while also taking input from the community itself. The question at hand being, how would the community around the Mazda 323F BA want the model to look if it were redesigned to be a contemporary model in Mazda’s range whilst retaining design aspects of the original? This would see the Mazda 323F BA becoming a new contemporary model that fits into Mazda’s ‘KODO’ design philosophy while at the same time retaining aspects of its heritage. Four interviews with members from the 323F owner’s community provide the input needed to do this along with design studies of past and present Mazda models through the use of digital media. This all culminates into a final concept which will be created and influenced through the data gathered through research aswell as automotive design methods such as the aforementioned ‘KODO’ and will be showcased by six final illustrations presenting the form and detail of this new concept. These illustrations aswell as the majority of the prior design studies and sketches will be created digitally through the use of tools such as Adobe Photoshop via a Huion drawing tablet and will be exhibited through high-quality prints.
