dc.description.abstract | The Public Service consistently remains one of the largest employers in the country. Thus, why its regulation is of the utmost importance to ensure that public service retains a high standard of merit and fairness. This notion of regulation is taken on the Constitutionally established body known as the Public Service Commission. By virtue of the most supreme law of the land, the Commission is entrusted with the responsibility of giving recommendations and advice to the Prime Minister regarding appointments to public offices and disciplinary actions over public officers. This research shall study the functions of the Commission in today’s day and age, since they have developed throughout the years and it shall determine how their functions are carried out. It shall also analyse the method of appointment of the members of the Commission to conclude whether the Commission is truly an independent body despite it being appointed by persons who hold a politically linked office. Ultimately, it shall determine whether recent amendments in relation to the appointment of the Police Commissioner, in which the Public Service Commission has an active role of participation, are in line with what is envisaged for the Commission in the laws which give it authority. | en_GB |
