Abstract: This study tries to explore the relationship between dyslexia and music learning and performance. The research theme: 'Dyslexia and Music, Addressing Abilities and Challenges', explores the effects dyslexia has on musicians in the process of learning and performing music. A case study of a piano playing student with dyslexia is conducted for this purpose. In the case studies ten observations and three interviews were conducted producing a triangulation of data which was analysed using thematic analysis. The findings are divided into five master themes: Theory of music, Performance, Effects of music, Examinations and Strategies. Each of these master themes is further divided into sub-themes forming a total of 14 subthemes. Findings both tally with research findings and also produce exciting new data not found in the literature. Besides abilities and challenges, these findings show the individual's role in the relationship of dyslexia and music. This can be used to improve further the access arrangements of music examinations and as a stepping stone to further research about the area.
