Abstract: This paper presents the Sensorless Position Control of a Permanent Magnet Synchronous Machine as used at the Steered Wheel Side of the Steer-by-Wire system in an automotive vehicle. A Pulsating High-Frequency Injection with a Search-Based Observer is used for sensorless estimation and control of the machine position and speed. The performance of the sensorless drive is tested for both forward and reverse load torque conditions using sigmoidal type position demands
