Abstract: The purpose of this quantitative, descriptive study is to explore the knowledge and attitudes local educators have regarding teaching learners with ADHD. This is important as a crucial part of the therapeutic process in occupational therapy. This study aimed to answer four research questions, these being: “What knowledge do local educators have on ADHD?” “How Knowledgeable are local educators on ADHD?”, “How confident do educators feel about teaching learners with ADHD?”, “What are the attitudes of local educators on ADHD?”. Local educators were provided with a cross-sectional survey with close-ended questions via google forms. The answers to these questions were then analysed, interpreted, and compared to literature sources. The participants of this study displayed good knowledge of the symptoms and aetiology of ADHD but lacked knowledge of classroom accommodations, such as appropriate seat placement and seating adaptations. The participants also indicated signs of hesitation when teaching students with ADHD but did not display any biases against them. The results of this study imply that occupational therapists should aim to create a more effective and collaborative relationship with educators. Where the educator and occupational therapist can both utilize their expertise and perspective to make the educational process for learners with ADHD better.
