Abstract: What is the experience of abused women who live in a shelter (in the case of this study at Għabex shelter)? This is the main rational behind this study, and hence, this study will give a voice to these women. This is a qualitative study in which data was gathered through the Qualitative Interview Guide Approach. The latter gives the opportunity to cover the same topics with all the seven interviewees, while keeping the interviews flexible. Analysis of the data collected was done through Thematic analysis. The following themes emerged : (1) stressful experience, (2) meeting basic needs, (3) the shelter as a safe place, (4) help offerred by shelter staff members, (5) living with other residents, (6) children, (7) the opportunity of learning, and (8) the development of inner strength. Those themes were common for all the seven women who participated in this study. From the results obtained, it was discovered that, apart from being a difficult and stressful experience, living in a shelter also helps women to learn, to grow, to get in touch with themselves, to become stronger, to find support, to take important decisions, and finally also to be responsible for the decision they undertake. Finally, various suggestions are presented tentatively, aiming at providing for a better life for Għabex residents.
