Abstract: | The relationship between mothers and work is an issue which has strongly come to light in contemporary society. It is a social phenomenon, since it involves both mothers and their families. Debates focus mainly on employment, as the main area of mothers' contribution in work activities. In fact these mothers are referred to as 'working mothers'. However, such a perspective excludes any work activity which the mother's parental role entails. It reflects the importance of studying the concept of work and motherhood, aiming at a more precise definition of 'the working mother'. This is the main theme of this dissertation. Various, present realities, encountered in the experience of motherhood, are also considered. |
